Reasons for developing an Agricultural Sector Model for the CEECs
Since the beginning of the transition process political and economic conditions have changed in the Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) on their way from centrally planned economies to more market orientated systems. These changes caused various reactions in the agricultural sector as well as in other parts of the economy.
Facing these problems a research team at the Institute for Agricultural Policy, University Bonn, (IAP) started the development of an integrated Policy Information system for Agricultural sectors in Transition countries (PIT) in the context of a common FAIR project "Agricultural Implications of CEEC Accession to the EU", financed by DG VI of EU Comission. The emphasis of this information system is on quantitative analyses of agricultural developments. This Policy Information system comprises the experience of and ensures compatibility to the Sectoral Production and Income Model for Agriculture of the EU Member States (SPEL).
Overview: PIT Concept
The aim of PIT is to provide information about agricultural developments in transition countries, carrying out quantitative analyses (ex-post and ex-ante) of the agricultural sector. PIT can be seen as an integrated approach, combining the four steps:
