World Food Model-WFM (FAO) (until 1995)
The WFM was developed and is maintained by FAO, Rome. Both Dr. Klaus Frohberg, a former staff member of the Department, and Dr. Wolfgang Britz have supported the FAO in the development and application of the WFM.
Overview
- Recursive dynamic non-spatial world trade model
- Some 150 national models and 13 products
- Heuristic parameters, e.g. elasticities
- Developed and applied by FAO, Rome, for medium-term projection and simulations
- Uses software tools developed by the Department for Economics, Agricultural Policy, and Agricultural Information Systems, University of Bonn
Details
Methodology:
The WFM System is a non-spatial, recursive-dynamic, synthetic, multi-regional, multi-product partial-equilibrium world trade model for basic food products. It provides a framework to forecast supply, demand and net trade for approximately 150 countries. The main features of the systems are the following:
- Close co-operation with the country and product experts in FAO in order to ensure plausible base lines
- Self-written, simple solution algorithm
- Covers tariffs, export quotas and PSE/CSE's as policy instruments
