Food Regulation and Trade: Institutional Framework, Concepts
of Analysis and
Empirical Evidence
The conflicts between food safety regulation at the national
level and an open international trade system are at the forefront
of the trade policy debate. How food safety issues are dealt with
in the world trading system is critical for developing countries
whose exports might be severely hampered, since they often lack
the technical, administrative and financial means to cope with
a fragmented system of national food regulations. However, differences
in food safety regulation are also prevalent between industrial
countries and increasingly have become a source of trade policy
conflicts.
The conference will address issues related to food regulation
and trade from a theoretical and empirical perspective, taking
into consideration the role of the government as well as of the
private sector in setting and adjusting food safety regulations.
The IATRC invites submissions of Contributed Papers for the Bonn
Public Symposium. Submissions should present results of new research
on the topic of the conference. Manuscripts will be selected through
a double blind review process.
