18. EAAE Congress 2025 in Bonn

The European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) brings together agricultural economists and other scientists interested in the challenges of the agricultural and food industries and rural development in Europe and beyond. The main objectives of the Association are: (a) to promote the knowledge and understanding of agricultural economics, especially in the European context, and (b) to promote the exchange of ideas, methodologies and results between agricultural economists.

The EAAE organizes a Congress, which normally follows a triennial cycle. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Association, the next Congress will take place in Bonn in 2025, just two years after the Rennes 2023 Congress. The event will bring together between 700 and 1000 scientists, experts, stakeholders and policy makers from all over the world to discuss the most topical and pressing issues facing the agri-food sector.

In its plenary sessions, the Bonn 2025 Congress will focus on the generally acknowledged need for food system transformation to achieve global sustainability goals. There will be an emphasis in the plenary sessions on how agricultural economics can assist the agrifood system in rising to the challenges posed by conflicting and competing interests. The contributed paper and poster sessions, as well as organized symposia, will reflect the broader activities of our community and will hence have a wider scope than the plenary sessions. Notably, part of the Bonn 2025 Congress programme will be devoted to a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the EAAE. It will provide an opportunity to look back on our past, reflect on the present and anticipate our future contributions. The EAAE Congress is the discipline’s premier networking event in Europe, providing the foundation for long-term collaboration in research and teaching and a forum to initiate and foster a meaningful impact for the discipline.

We look forward to seeing you in Bonn!

The XVIII EAAE Congress scheduled in Bonn from August 26 - 29, 2025, has aroused great interest among agricultural economists from Europe and worldwide. We received a total of 1,271 submissions: 887 for contributed papers, 271 for posters, and 113 for organized sessions. This marks the highest number of submissions in the past two decades and possibly a record in the history of EAAE congresses. It is a great success for the EAAE and our community, and a way for agricultural economists to pay tribute to the EAAE on its 50th anniversary.

All submissions are currently under rigorous review and we extend our gratitude to the reviewers for their assistance in this substantial undertaking. We anticipate notifying authors about the selection outcomes in the first week of May 2025, facilitating timely participant registration. Please stay updated by regularly checking the congress Website, our LinkedIn page, and the EAAE newsletter for forthcoming information.

We look forward to your active participation in making the XVIII EAAE Congress a resounding success.

The XVIII Congress of the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) took place at the Poppelsdorf Campus in Bonn from 26 August to 29 August 2025. The event brought together 1,085 participants from 57 countries, making Bonn a hub for international exchange in agricultural and food economics. Particularly supporting this exchange, 15 Young Researcher Scholarships were awarded, and many early-career scientists used the Congress to establish their first international networks.

Framed by the theme “Food System Transformation in Challenging Times”, the Congress in Bonn attracted 1,271 submissions and featured 760 presented contributions across 187 sessions, marking an unprecedented record in the history of EAAE Congresses.

A special highlight of the Congress was the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the EAAE. On Friday, 29 August, a dedicated anniversary session combined reflections on the origins of the association and its contributions to major developments in agriculture with forward-looking discussions on the role of agricultural economics in the future. At a festive Gala Dinner, those who have made lasting contributions to the association were honored, and the Congress concluded in a celebratory atmosphere.
